The Beer

Yards is an 18 year old brewery located in Philadelphia. From their site: "Our roots lie in British inspired ales and we strive to achieve balance and subtlety in all of the styles we brew through careful selection of ingredients and an unwavering commitment to artisanal production practices. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor whether it be the Yards standard Philadelphia Pale Ale, our first love (and first brewed) Extra Special Ale, the liquid time capsules that are the Ales of the Revolution, or the experimental small batches that come from our original 3-barrel brew house, Yards 1."

Ghost Pines Wine Tasting

This Friday 7/12/13 stop by to try wines from Ghost Pines. Each lot of  Ghost Pines 2011 Red Blend was fermented separately before blending. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah lots were cold soaked and fermented at warm temperatures to give the wine structure and depth. The Zinfandel was pumped over gently to liberate its spice characteristics and  blended Petit Verdot from  Ghost Pines vineyard to add darkness and richness.

Ghost Pines 2011 Zinfandel blends fruit from Sonoma and San Joaquin counties to accentuate the best of what each county has to offer. This blend opens up with complex aromas of macaroon fresh out of the oven with a coconut cream pie chaser, Szechuan peppercorns in hot oil and berry pie that's interlaced throughout those spices. In the mouth it becomes more about the cardamom. Like that background note in a great cinnamon roll or the undefinable essence of a fine cup of tea, there's a real intrigue to the spice in this wine that leaves a lingering finish.
